The Nature Center
We visted the Nature Center on April 27th. We had a guided tour and learned about animal habitats and characteristics of different groups of animals. This was our kick-off to science fair!! We have all picked a animal that lives or has lived in WNC to research and do a project on!
Terrariums!
We built terrariums in small groups. We added soil, wheat, alfalfa, rye grass and pothus. The kids then brought in caterpillars, earthworms, centipedes and pillbugs to add to their new habitat!
Mowing our lawns!!
We planting Rye grass seed and Alfalfa seeds and grew lawns! This week we mowed our lawns! We made predictions about what would happen to the Alfalfa and Rye grass after we mowed them. Would they grow back? We also planted wheat seeds in drinking straws so we could observe what happens to during germination.
Planting Basil
We are starting lots of basil seeds for our school Folk Art garden!! They are doing great!!
Balancing pencils!!
We balanced different objects on our fingers and found the balancing point!
We then used wire and clothes pins to try and balance a pencil on it’s point. Here is a video of how to do it if you want to try at home!
